A Child’s Song Joins Alliance for Music Education Equity for Music Fair at Levitt Pavilion

Levitt Pavilion is teaming up with the Alliance for Music Education Equity (AMEE) to deliver a day of live music and music education. Denver’s own Kayla Marque will be opening for indie Latin-rock group Y La Bamba for a free show on Levitt Denver’s stage, accompanied by an education fair run by representatives of the AMEE’s extensive list of partnered programs, including A Child’s Song. This event was funded in part by Denver Arts & Venues through a Denver Music Advancement Fund grant that was awarded to AMEE. General Admission doors open at 3:30pm to access the resource fair and the concert starts at 5pm.

I hope that this annual AMEE event becomes a place where the community comes together and interacts with music organizations in a new way. We want to make sure that music education is fully accessible to every child in Denver
and this will be one of the ways that we can give students the opportunity to interact with music organizations and choose what they like.

Among the many musical education organizations at the concert are the MSU Department of Music, the Colorado Symphony, Deeply Rooted Music school, Newman Center for Performing Arts, and Swallow Hill Music, who will be running what is known as an “instrument petting zoo,”where any curious attendee can try out a variety of different instruments. All of the vendors present will be giving out information on their programs, educational opportunities, and future events. The concert will have free general admission with limited VIP tickets available, providing 1 free drink, best in house seating section with limited chairs, early VIP entrance and a separate VIP bar line.

Levitt has been providing free concerts to the people of Denver every summer since 2017, with the firm belief that a mutual love of music can help bring a community together even in the most trying times. As the city recovers from the blow of the pandemic, these shows have been a beacon of connection, music discovery and fun. Levitt Pavilion Denver is a mission-driven nonprofit, much like the Alliance for Music Education Equity, who believe that embracing, teaching, and understanding every culture and genre of music will help promote diversity in Denver. The show marks the first collaboration between these two establishments.

Y La Bamba is an ideal choice to headline such an event, as her deeply human songs about identity, family, and heritage match up perfectly with the missions of these collaborating nonprofits. Kayla Marque, the event’s opener, is also the program manager at Diversify the Stage and a member of Levitt’s Bodies of Culture Board. These roles, along with her ties to the city of Denver, makes her well qualified to help encourage inclusion, open-mindedness, and curiosity about all kinds of music at this event.

Anyone interested in attending can RSVP for free at levittdenver.org, where more info on the performers and vendors can be found.
