Thornton, Colorado, March 2022 — A Child’s Song (ACS) would like to thank Colorado Creative Industries and our state elected officials for their generous $40,000 grant to help us continue to provide music education and movement classes in our local schools and community during the ongoing pandemic.

A Child’s Song was founded in 1999 to ensure that any child, regardless of developmental ability or income, could pursue high-quality music instruction. The pandemic, however, has further illuminated the deep divide that exists between arts education opportunities enjoyed by “those that have” and “those that have not.” More privileged youth had access to individual lessons or online instruction during the pandemic, and youth with fewer resources had almost no programming. With this funding, ACS will continue to pursue its mission and introduce students to the hope and joy of music instruction and movement, and provide need-based scholarships enabling all who are interested to participate in our programs.

ACS’s Executive Director, Sandy Taylor shared, “Many argue, that music and arts programs are optional when so many individuals face extreme financial hardship and food insecurity due to COVID-19. The reality is that the arts and the routine of weekly programming provide comfort during difficult times. Through innovation and ingenuity, and relief funding from Colorado Creative Industries, ACS and other arts organizations are doing all we can to keep the arts alive for youth during the continuing pandemic.”
