A Taste of Theatre Camp Performance Transports Audience Back in Time with Sock Hop Theme

Our Summer musical theatre session created another lively and entertaining week-long journey into the basics of stage performance. A Taste of Musical Theatre attendees transported onlookers back in time with their adaptation of Sock Hop at the Rockin’ Robin. The performance was not just any ordinary play—it was a delightful throwback, echoing the era of jukeboxes, diners, and some of the most timeless music that never fails to get a foot tapping.

Students aged 6 and up embarked on a transformative journey into the world of theatre during an action-packed week. Their days were filled with absorbing the essentials of the stage, memorizing lines and songs, immersing themselves into the world of their characters, and perfecting their roles. By the week’s conclusion, these young thespians had delved into:

Character Craft: Mastering the art of morphing into diverse fictional personas, using voices, facial expressions, and dynamic movements.

Stage Dynamics: Grasping the nuances of body positioning on stage, ensuring they’re always visible to the audience, and adhering to directional cues about their movements and placements.

Voice Amplification: Honing the skill of projecting their voices, ensuring both their spoken lines and melodious tunes reach the very last row.

Spontaneous Storytelling: Testing the art of improvisation, as they wove stories and scenes in the moment, drawing from their creativity and each other.

Lingo of the Limelight: Familiarizing themselves with terminologies unique to the world of theatre – from parts of the stage to various styles and theatrical jargon.

Behind the Curtains: They got a behind-the-scenes look at how to set up a scene, play with positioning, and create awesome costumes.

Stepping into the Spotlight: Preparation became second nature, as they learned the discipline required to remember their lines, and the essence of teamwork in bringing a production to life.

Captivating the Audience: It wasn’t just about acting. They learned how special it is to connect with the people watching. They made sure the audience felt all the fun and excitement, making them a big part of the show.

At the end of camp, participants put on a wonderful show for friends and family showcasing all of the things they learned throughout the week. It was a joyous evening of theatre followed by a delightful cast party where students and audience members mingled and enjoyed a treat.

A round of applause for our brave participants!
