Thornton, CO—A Child’s Song (ACS) has received a grant from the SCFD in the amount of $95,200 to further the mission to nurture an appreciation for music while providing programs and education to share the developmental, healing and social-emotional benefits of music for humans of all ages and abilities.
The funds were provided to support three key projects at ACS:
1. Achievement: $27,600 of the award amount is earmarked for ACS’ Achievement program, school-based instruction that either supplements the current curriculum or provides guided programming in its entirety to partnering schools in Adams County.
2. Reach & Teach: $27,600 of the award amount applies to ACS’ Reach & Teach programming and community outreach support for any at-risk individuals who could benefit from music education.
3. General Operating Expenses: The remaining $40,000 of the SCFD grant will be applied to ACS’ general operating expenses. These funds will ensure instructors have the most current tools and support needed to teach to their best abilities. It will also greatly assist several administrative projects geared to make the organization run more efficiently and effectively- implementation of Salesforce, Customer Relationship Management software, and Tri-Net, a human resources platform dedicated to providing a better workplace for our team and allow us to continue to make improvements to our compensation packages.
“Funding from the SCFD makes a huge impact on the success of A Child's Song, allowing us to reach more individuals and change more lives with music. Since we started receiving funding from them, we have seen our reach grow exponentially. In 2007 our annual impact was about 1,000 individuals, in 2022 our impact has reached over 10,000 individuals. That's 900% more people reached this year alone, in comparison to the year we began receiving funding. Without the SCFD's consistent support, I don't know if we would have been able to make as big of a difference as we have. ”

The SCFD is a seven-county tax district created within Colorado law, approved by Colorado’s General Assembly, and renewed by voters multiple times over more than 30 years. The SCFD is defined in state statute by the Colorado Legislature and approved by voters. You can read all the fine print.
The seven-county Denver metro area including Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties participate, with the exception of Castle Rock and Larkspur in Douglas County.
Just one penny on every $10 in sales and use tax collected goes to SCFD. This money is then given out annually to qualifying organizations in three ways:
